Safety

Safety is our #1 priority. No exceptions.

A selection of our products have been independently safety tested by a recognized 3rd party testing facility in the United States. It is important to know that teething toys can pose as a hazard if constructed incorrectly and to avoid any potential bias on our product, we hire out professionals to ensure we meet the standards set by the Canadian Consumer Products Safety Act (Canada) and Consumer Product Safety Commission (USA).
Physical & Mechanical testing done on our teethers are:

SOR 2011-17

ASTM F963
16 CFR 1501
16 CFR 1500.44
CPSIA 103

All products are made with materials that are approved by the FDA and meet the standards of the Canadian Consumer Product Safety Act.

Food grade silicone is free from all harmful chemicals and 100% non-toxic. Product used has been tested to ensure it is free of:

Lead, BPA, PVC, Mercury, Phthalates, and that it is tasteless and odourless.

In addition, food grade silicone is in compliance with CE, FDA, CPSIA and more.

Wood products used are always hardwood. The species of wood we use most often are beech and maple. Wood hardness is an extremely important factor and it is important to know that not all wood species are safe for teething. Soft wood can break easily with repetitive exposure to moisture (washing/saliva) and can easily become brittle or splinter (therefore more susceptible to break). Soft wood species are never used or sold by Tailored Tots.

Wood is naturally antibacterial which means it does not harbor bacteria or mold. Because of such, wooden teethers do not require sterilization (and should not be sterilized).

Wood is a natural product which overtime will break down without proper care. It is recommended that all wooden teethers and beads be periodically conditioned with a food grade wood conditioner. The wood salve we use for our teethers/beads is a blend of organic (locally sourced) beeswax and pure olive oil. We do sell this blend in our shop however, any preferred food grade oil of choice is acceptable for conditioning. Please inquire if you have questions about wood conditioner.

If you find your wooden teether is becoming a little rough from repetitive exposure to water/saliva, simply run a fine sandpaper over the teether until it buffs smooth, wipe clean with a cloth with hot soapy water, air dry and condition with wood salve.

It is very important to note that teethers that are strung together should NOT be sterilized. Extreme hot water can compromise the integrity of the cording in which holds the silicone/wood beads together. Any teether that is 100% silicone (no wooden pieces) and not strung together (no cording) is safe to be sterilized. Please inquire if you are unsure. Please regularly inspect your teether and cording for signs of wear and discontinue use if signs present.

Teething toys are not intended for dogs. If you have a dog that got a hold of a teether, please discard the teether. Dogs mouths and teeth are much stronger than humans and they can compromise the integrity of the teether.

Teething toys are designed for babies with the intention to be used always with supervision. They are not to be used /left with a child unsupervised / while sleeping.

Suitable for ages 3 months+ (with the exception of the pacifier clips which can be used from birth).

In compliance with Health Canada guidelines, all feeding products are set to a recommended age of 6+ months.

Please do not hesitate if you have any questions about safety and care that are not outlined here. All products come with a care card.
